Abstract

Background: Uric acid levels in older adults are influenced by several factors, including body mass index (BMI), dietary patterns, and genetic factors. In the working area of Berseri Pangkalan Kerinci Health Center, 798 older adults were recorded and 148 had uric acid problems. Objective: To identify factors associated with uric acid levels among older adults at Berseri Pangkalan Kerinci Health Center. Methods: A quantitative analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted from November 15 to December 10, 2025. The population consisted of 148 people, and 108 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and uric acid measurements and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Ethical clearance: the number was not stated in the source document. Results: Sixty-two respondents (57.4%) were non-obese, 76 (70.4%) had a low-purine diet, 59 (54.6%) had no genetic history, and 57 (52.8%) had normal uric acid levels. BMI (p=0.008) and dietary pattern (p=0.007) were significantly associated with uric acid levels, whereas genetics was not (p=0.307). Conclusion: BMI and dietary pattern were associated with uric acid levels among older adults, while genetic factors were not significantly associated. These findings may support nursing services at the primary care level in strengthening education on weight control and healthy dietary patterns among older adults. Education should emphasize food selection, weight management, physical activity, and periodic monitoring of uric acid levels according to older adults’ needs
